POULTRY DEMONSTRATION UNIT
The Broiler and Layer Project started in the 2004/05 financial year and was to be implemented over a period of 3 years. However, it has been extended to a period of five years up to 2008/09 to allow more smallholder farmers benefit from it. The project aims at contributing to the development of the Poultry Industry in Malawi in line with the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS).
Specifically the project aims at equipping smallholder poultry farmers with entrepreneurial skills in poultry business. The project emphasises on hands-on experience through theoretical and practical training in various aspects of poultry management. At present the project is being managed by DEMAT and funds are disbursed through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
