The Development of Malawian Enterprises
Trust (DEMAT) is a Government of Malawi Organisation that
was established in 1979 under the Trust Incorporation Act
of the Laws of Malawi and it falls under the Ministry of
Trade, Industry and Private Sector Development. Its aim is
to promote growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs)
in the country.
Vision: To operate a one-stop service centre in
enterprise development.
Mission: To provide professional business training
and financial services to micro, small and medium
enterprises sector.

DEMAT offers two main operational
services thus Business Training and Micro Finance services.
Training Services: This is a core function of DEMAT and it
is divided into three main categories:
Entrepreneurship Services:
This involves provision of advice and training in business
identification, planning, start up techniques,
entrepreneurial skills and group dynamics.
Production
/Technical Services:
Technical advice and trainings are provided to production
enterpreneurs, including training in agro-based services.

Marketing Services:
This includes: Production and Service development, market
assessment/identification and strengthening producer-buyer
relationship for small and medium enterprises.
Micro-finance
Services:
Credit Management Training: DEMAT provides training in
credit management skills to individuals or group loanees
or would be loanees on how to prepare comprehensive
business plans and project proposals.
Direct Lending: DEMAT also provides loans to Micro and
small scale entrepreneurs. The credit facilities are
extended to the entrepreneurs either as individuals or as
members of groups, associations and / or cooperatives.
